About this event

🎶 A Love Letter to the South Side. A Homecoming for the Culture.

Black & Bronze is more than a festival—it's an intentional celebration of Bronzeville’s legacy as a national epicenter of Black history, creativity, and cultural power. Held in the heart of the neighborhood, this day-long gathering pays homage to the South Side’s unmatched contributions to American music, art, and activism—while shining a light on the next generation carrying that torch forward.

Join us for a vibrant day of music, movement, and community rooted in soul, spirit, and storytelling. This is where tradition meets innovation. Where gospel choirs, hip hop cyphers, soulful tributes, and jazz improvisation converge with footwork battles, drumlines, wellness activations, and the electric energy of our people. 🎤💃🏾🖤

🎯 WHY BLACK & BRONZE?

Because we are the culture.
Because we honor where we come from.
Because Bronzeville is more than a neighborhood—it’s a beacon of Black brilliance.

Black & Bronze is rooted in historical reverence and creative resurgence. It uplifts local independent artists and storytellers, connects generations, and turns a neighborhood park into a portal of pride, memory, and movement.

This is not just a day of performances—it’s a homecoming, a living archive, and a joyful reminder that the South Side’s legacy continues.

Jessica Lá Rel is a recording artist, songwriter, and storyteller from Chicago by way of the Bay Area. Her “cinematic soul” sound likens her music to an orchestra traveling from the south side of Chicago to Ghana. Her 2016 debut EP, Four Freedoms, ranked #12 on the UK Soul Charts, and landed her opportunities to perform for Oprah Winfrey, US. Rep John Lewis and Rev. Jesse Jackson. Lá Rel's most recent music videos have gained national attention as they inspire empathy around the issue of police brutality and representation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Huffington Post commented on Lá Rel's work, stating Lá Rel "uses her song and video to provide an anthem for the contemporary movement for Black rights. She is a rising superstar with incredible potential, an artist who inspires, and someone that we should all be looking out for."

Lá Rel has opened for Melanie Fiona, Luke James, Omarion, and Angelique Kidjo and has been featured at multiple venues and festivals in California, Atlanta, Washington DC, and Chicago. Jessica is set to release 2 eps and a culminating album, entitled War Love this year, with the first release coming on May 28th.
