Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.

A week into June we are only two weeks from the beginning of summer. So, if you want a taste of summer birding along the beaches of Drayton Harbor and Boundary Bay, please join us. We will check out the beaches and surrounding waters to see which marine bird species arestill in the area and what additional species might be present. We can usually still find scoters, harlequin ducks, among others, at this season, as well as great blue herons, bald eagles, belted kingfishers, black oystercatchers, Caspian terns and a few swallow species along the beaches.

Then we will switch our focus to the spit itself and the forested shoreline to see what breeding residents are setting up housekeeping. We will be looking and listening for woodpeckers, swallows, flycatchers, thrushes, warblers, sparrows, finches and others. We should be able to find rufous hummingbirds, willow flycatchers, Swainson’s thrushes, orange-crowned, yellow-rumpled and Wilson’s warblers, savannah, song, and white-crowned sparrows, American goldfinches and brown-headed cowbirds among other species.

Please join us on and along the beaches of Semiahmoo to see who is planning to spend the summer with us. Birders of all skill levels are welcome, especially those who are new to this exciting avocation.

*Note: If the trip limit is reached please check back in case there is a cancellation and a spot becomes available.
