Bird Walk - Riley's Lock
Overview
Riley’s Lock is a gem for winter birding — wide river vistas, tree-lined towpaths, and quiet marsh edges that become a seasonal refuge for ducks, grebes, wintering songbirds, and the occasional surprise visitor. Our trained guides will lead you along the canal and river overlook, sharing tips on identifying birds by sight and sound, interpreting winter behavior, and appreciating how the C&O Canal supports bird life year-round.
Expect to see winter duck in the river, kinglets in the pines (hear them anyway -- they're fast!), herons hunting the shoreline, and the possibility of Bald Eagles gliding overhead.
