Bird Migration at Pointe Mouillee
Overview
Join Detroit Bird Alliance expert and eagle eyed leaders Jim Bull and Bruce Szczechowski for Spring birding at Pointe Mouillee State Game Area! The leaders will take you on a 4 - 5 mile hike on the dikes at Pointe Mouillee. You could see White Pelicans, Northern Pintails, Northern Shovelers and other waterfowl. Other birds sometimes sighted on these walks are Eagles, Northern Harriers and Merlins.
Pointe Mouillee is a significant waterfowl habitat and one of the largest freshwater marsh restoration projects in North America, encompassing 7,483 acres of wetlands and open water. Adding to the magic of Pointe Mouillee is the fact that it lies within the Atlantic and Mississippi flyways bringing numerous migrating species of birds to rest and refuel.
