Join us for a talk about a wonderful community biolab in the Basque region!
Ricardo Mutuberria is the founder of BIOOK, a non-profit association at the forefront of open science, citizen science and community science. Come hear about all the groundbreaking initiatives at BIOOK and the differences between biohacking in Europe vs. the U.S.
Ricardo's goal is to make science accessible to everyone. It's about having fun, exploring life, learning through experimentation, and ultimately, improving the world. BIOOK is based on the community biology (DIYbio), citizen science, and open science movements, creating new opportunities for anyone to engage in science and contributing to educational, social and environmental improvement.

About the Speaker
Ricardo Mutuberria is a biologist with an MSc in Applied Biotechnology and Microbiology and an MSc in Science Communication. After starting a career in biomedical research Ricardo found his place at science museums promoting scientific culture. He has worked at “Parque de las Ciencias” in Granada, Blau Museum in Barcelona, and at the American Museum of Natural History. During his New York experience Ricardo joined the community biolab Genspace as a volunteer for over two years. Since 2015 Ricardo has been working as a freelance consultant and entrepreneur. In 2018 he returned to his home town, Bilbao, where he has founded Biook and BiookLab. A non-for-profit organization, and an ecosocial company, that promote STEAM education, citizen science and community biology. Ricardo combines the leadership of these institutions with freelance projects mainly for museum and cultural industries.
