Does your little one struggle with big feelings? Do you have a hard time understanding why they have such big feelings? If the answer to either question is yes, then this is the workshop for you!
Hi there! I'm Ajuné Richardson, a senior psychology major at Cornell University. I have always had a deep passion for children's well-being, so I plan to pursue a career in clinical child psychology in grad school. I have spent a lot of time caring for children since the age of 11, and currently, I care for children regularly as both an assistant preschool teacher and a childcare provider.
I organized this workshop to be a fun, informative, and beneficial program for parents and their children. At the start, there will be an informational segment dedicated to educating parents on the science behind their children's emotional development. Parents will gain a deeper understanding of the way their child's brain works. Concerned about your child getting bored? Not to worry–various toys and games will be provided for them during this segment.
The remainder of the workshop will engage the children in ways that will teach them how to identify and cope with their big emotions. As a group, we will:
1) complete an emotion identification activity,
2) read two children's books about emotional regulation,
3) learn the "pufferfish breathing" technique, and
4) engage all five of our senses as we test out different ways to calm down in moments of stress.
Note: This workshop session is completely FREE to participate in! However, before you leave, you are welcome to pay whatever you feel this workshop experience was worth, if anything. Above all, your attendance is appreciated.
