With standout performances at BeardFest, Anahata’s Purpose, and the RVA Burlesque Festival, she brings technical skill, storytelling, and soul to every session.
What are Fan Veils?
Also known as silk fans, fan veils are a stunning dance and flow prop made by attaching long silk fabric to folding hand fans. When moved through the air, they create hypnotic ribbons of color, blending elegance, emotion, and movement. Popular in belly dance, burlesque, and flow arts, they invite both precision and play.
About the Workshop:
Beyond the Fan Veil is a 60-minute immersive class designed for beginner to intermediate movers (and curious artists) looking to deepen their connection with silk fans and expressive movement.
You’ll learn:
• Fan veil anatomy + how to handle them smoothly
• Foundational movements, turns, and body framing
• Solo flow and playful group exercises
• Recovery moves for dropped props (because it happens!)
• How to care for your fans so they last
Whether you're brand new or brushing off your fans, you'll leave with a stronger foundation, greater flow confidence, and a deeper connection to your own movement style.
About the Instructor:
Jewelissa (she/they) is a Philly/South Jersey-based movement artist and instructor at the Philadelphia Burlesque Academy. Their teaching blends the grace of belly dance with grounded expression and intuitive fan veil flow.
