Better Things Gathering & Open Mic (January 2026)

By The ReEntry Lab

Overview

This gathering will feature a narrative interventions lab, facilitated by Kyle "Guante" Tran Myhre, followed by an open mic.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 6th, at 7:00pm, at Moon Palace Books, for our next Gathering and Open Mic. This gathering will feature a narrative interventions lab, facilitated by Kyle “Guante” Tran Myhre.

This will be a space in which we can dream up ways to make our values, politics, and principles come to life in the world. In poetry terms, it’s about brainstorming ideas to make the abstract a bit more concrete. What narratives do we notice around us? What stories are operating underneath our communities’ understanding of different issues and concepts? What counter-narratives would we like to cultivate? A “narrative intervention” can be an art project, a media campaign, a virtual program, an event idea—anything that creates real-life space for a counter-narrative to grow. In this interactive workshop, we’ll explore these questions, share skills and ideas, and have some space to dream together. We’ll take a few minutes at the end to share work, either generated during this lab or something you bring with you.

All are welcome to show up and to participate in the open mic! (List is first come, first serve.) This reading, and the open mic afterward, will be hosted by Davi Gray. Masks are required at Moon Palace Books and are available on-site. This is a free event.

Better Things is a series of events sponsored by the ReEntry Lab, in partnership with the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop (MPWW) and Moon Palace Books. The ReEntry Lab is an organization working to connect writers and other artists leaving incarceration to a community that’s ready to receive them.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.

There is a Facebook event, or you can add it to your Google Calendar or download an ICS file to add it to other calendars, but you can also just show up! We’d love to have you there — all are welcome at this free event.
