Don't Shoot Portland, in collaboration with Portland City Archives, invite you to attend BETTER THAN A SHOEBOX - Saving Your Archives & Community History!
This self-guided, free archiving workshop offers hands-on instruction from experienced archivists, oral history experts, and community memory workers to ensure our community stories are accessible for generations to come.
Attendees are encouraged to bring items from their family or community collections to use as examples as they practice proper handling, labeling, and storage of their materials. This could include:
- Family photographs
- Documents (letters, flyers, event material, organizational material)
- Treasured books, albums, or scrapbooks
- Art, artifacts, and textiles
Each attendee will be provided with an archival supply kit to get them started on their preservation journey! In addition to preservation techniques, attendees will have the opportunity to scan their archival items and learn about recording oral histories to digitally preserve their stories for generations to come.
Refreshments and beverages will be provided.
