Play therapists often state that involving parents is one of the most challenging aspects of their work (Ray, 2011). Through this workshop, attendees will review best practices for parent consultations as well as engage in preparatory activities that will strengthen this skill.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. discuss relevant research related to parent consultations.
  2. discuss why it is difficult to work with parents in play therapy.
  3. outline best practices for play therapy parent consultations according to research.
  4. utilize proposed documentation model for preparing for play therapy parent consultations.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual presentation. Participants are asked to be visible (video on) throughout the presentation to facilitate engagement and will be awarded 3 APT Non-Contact CE upon successful completion of a post test.

FAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 02-115. FAPT maintains responsibility for the program. Registrants understand and agree that any photograph (screenshot), video or audio recording of themselves may be used to further promote FAPT.

FAPT is approved by the Florida Department of Health under FL Statute 491 to offer continuing education for Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors. Provider Number BAP-50-10520 expires 03/31/2027. FAPT is approved by the Florida Department of Health under FL Statute 490 to offer continuing education for Psychologists. Provider Number BAP-50-10520 expires 05/31/2026.

Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than September 12, 2025. Cancellations are subject to a $20 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested.

About our presenter: Ahou Vaziri Line, PhD, LPC-S, RPT™, NCC, CSC, Certified CCPT-S is a Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor, Registered Play Therapist, Certified School Counselor and recently held a faculty position as a Research Assistant Professor at The University of North Texas where she trained graduate students in their pursuit of a career in counseling. Dr. Line is the co-founder of Thread Counseling Group, a published author, former graduate professor, and speaker. Ahou has authored several peer-reviewed works and has been invited to speak on many topics including supporting play therapists in engaging parents in their work and in multicultural implications of play therapy.
