About this event

Health • Other

Forest bathing is a calming practice designed to help you slow down and reconnect with nature. Set in tranquil woodland, this guided session combines a slow, gentle walk with regular pauses for sensory activities, mindfulness and meditation. Rooted in the practice of Shinrin-Yoku, this experience is not about walking fast or far, but about tuning into your senses and allowing your mind and body to relax.

Spending time in nature in this way offers many mental and physical benefits, including reducing stress, improving mood, boosting immune function and supporting overall wellbeing. As well as inviting you to immerse yourself in the restorative power of nature, this session encourages you to notice the natural world more deeply – helping you grow a sense of connection and mutual relationship with nature.

Whether you’re new to mindfulness, seeking a break from a busy life, or simply curious about deepening your relationship with the natural world, this experience is open to all – just come as you are and give yourself permission to breathe, be present and feel more grounded.

Ticket holders to this event will receive complimentary day access to the Wallington estate, giving you more time to explore and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Location and Arrival Information

The session will take place in the beautiful woodland of the Wallington National Trust property in Northumberland.

Please meet 10 mins early at the Dragon Kiosk (number 8 on the map below).

Wallington will open at 10am if you wish to make use of the toilet facilities before the event begins. Please note, we will not be able to wait past the start time for latecomers.

What to Wear/Bring

To get the most from your experience, please wear/bring with you:

  • Plenty of warm layers of clothing (the temperature of woodlands is cooler, even in the summer, and we will be moving very slowly and entering our parasympathetic nervous system so it is easy to get cold)
  • Long sleeves and long trousers to protect against stings and bites
  • Waterproofs
  • Sturdy footwear
  • A picnic mat or groundsheet (a large bin bag will do the job if needed). Alternatively, a small foldable chair, if that is more appropriate for you.
  • A non-breakable mug for optional guided tea-drinking
  • Other weather-related essentials (e.g. suncream, gloves, additional warm layers)

We recommend you bring these items in a backpack or similar to keep your hands free to explore!

Please note that if you do not have suitable clothing your guide may decide it is not safe for you to participate in the session.

Accessibility Note

We will be slowly moving through the forest and stopping regularly for sensory activities. Towards the end of the session, it’s likely that there will be the opportunity to sit or lie down for a longer relaxation activity – you are welcome to bring a small foldable chair to use during the session if this is more suitable for you. There may be some benches available along the route.

Please note that the route will likely include uneven ground, short inclines and some venturing off-path. If you have any mobility issues, we recommend you join one of our accessible forest bathing sessions which uses the accessible paths around the woodland and adopts a particularly gentle, slow pace, with plenty of opportunities to sit and rest.

Forest Bathing is generally safe and beneficial for everyone, but if you have any severe medical conditions or health related concerns (including mental health issues, major surgeries, seizures or severe allergies), we recommend getting advise from a medical professional before participating in a session, if appropriate.

If you require any adaptations or special considerations, or if you would like to know more about the accessibility of the event, please contact your guide via rootedwellbeinguk@gmail.com in advance of the session.

Other important info:

No dogs allowed.

Whilst forest bathing embraces all rainy, snowy and sunny weather, it may be necessary to alter or cancel an event if it is not safe to proceed – this is most likely in the event of high winds or thunderstorms.
