About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us for beginning Argentine tango with Diego Lanau and Alejandra Saravia! This is a series of four classes held at the Berkeley City Club, Wednesdays in August 2025. Diego and Alejandra are full-time professional Argentine tango teachers with many years of experience teaching in the Bay Area. In this class, we focus on the fundamental structures of tango that give rise to creativity and grace in social dancing.

These classes are taught using the terms “leaders” and “followers,” and are inclusive to queer, trans, and non-binary people.

Wednesdays, Aug. 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th

6:45-7:00 pm: check-in

7:00-8:00 pm beginning tango

The practicas are included with the classes. Stay, dance, and ask questions! For those with more than six months of experience, we also host an intermediate series at 8:30 on the same dates. This ticket is for the beginner series.

A full bar is available at Morgan's Bar and Lounge, also inside the Berkeley City Club. The tango class is open to all ages.

We are a 10-minute walk from Downtown Berkeley BART. For bike parking, use the bell to enter through the service entrance, and go straight to get to the back courtyard. No parking in the City Club lot. Extra parking is available for $2 per hour at the Ellsworth Structure at 2337 Haste St.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to come with a partner!

No! Most students switch partners throughout the dance class. If you do come with a partner, you may switch partners or stick with the same person.

Do I need dance shoes?

No, but it does help. We recommend wearing shoes that are light, flexible, and slippery on the bottom in order to be able to pivot. You can wear jazz shoes, ballet slippers, dance sneakers, character shoes, or any shoes with a leather sole. Socks are fine too!
