Beginning Modern Calligraphy Workshop April 6
Description
Learn the meditative and creative art of calligraphy! Instructor Melissa Esplin will take you through the foundations of pointed pen calligraphy and apply it to a modern, free-spirited style.
In this 3 hour workshop, we'll cover how to use the pen, manipulate pen and ink, troubleshoot issues, write out drills, practice a lowercase alphabet and (time allowing) attack uppercase letters. You will leave with a knowledge of proper grip, posture, orientation, materials and a basic modern alphabet. You will have the tools necessary to start your journey in mastering modern calligraphy and how to maintain your practice beyond class.
Class includes:
- 3 hours of instruction
- Snacks
- Materials (holder, nib, ink, paper, pencil, paper and pouch)
- Handouts
- Post-class email with links to helpful resources and printable handouts
All skill levels (and lefties!!) are welcome. If you have prior experience, please come prepared with samples of your work and any questions you may have. Melissa will work one-on-one with you to make sure that you're adequately challenged throughout the class.
The class is structured to allow for instructional and one-on-one time in 30-45 minute increments. After demonstrating, Melissa walks the room to provide adjustments, critiques and feedback to continue your work. The class size is limited to no more than 15 students to allow for personal interaction. It's a friendly, conversational environment, so feel free to ask as many questions as you may have!
Infants in arms are welcome. We're happy to provide you with a special space with privacy for feeding your child as well. Please contact us beforehand so we can make the appropriate adjustments to the classroom layout.
Please contact the organizer if you have dietary restrictions. We're happy to make accommodations.
No refunds. If you're unable to make it to the workshop, you can transfer your ticket to one of Melissa's online classes or you may sell your ticket to someone else. Attendees are responsible for selling tickets and notifying Melissa of any changes.
