About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Quilting is an art, a practice, and a joy. In this class, students will learn how to make a quilt by making one of their own. You’ll be guided through the process step by step and learn important terminology and tips, as well as get answers for questions you might have. Students should expect to work on their quilt at home between classes, but will have a completed quilt by the end of the third class.

Pre-requisites: Attendees should bring their own sewing machine (owned or borrowed) and have a basic knowledge of how to thread the machine. If you are unsure of how to thread it: you can find PDF instruction manuals for most machines online or a youtube video that walks you through the steps. If you still aren’t sure of how to thread it: you can make an appointment with the instructor prior to the first class and she can look at your machine and help.

This three-part workshop takes place on the following dates and times. Please note: Each class session will have homework to complete before the next session.

Session One: September 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In session one, participants will learn terminology and tools used in quilting. You’ll also learn how to piece and press segments into blocks.

Session Two: September 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In session two, participants will learn how to sew blocks into rows, sew rows together, how to baste a quilt together using safety pins, and how to do easy quilting designs.

Session Three: September 27, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

In session three, participants will learn how to make binding strips and how to attach binding onto the quilt.
