Is there a prerequisite?

Yes. You must have completed a short course or equivalent and have at least one year of experience OR demonstrate basic knowledge and have at least two years of beekeeping experience.

Do I need a bee suit?

You will NOT need a suit for THE FIRST DAY. We will go over appropriate attire on the first day. The minimum coverage requirement for days we visit the hives are closed toe shoes, long trousers, long sleeve shirt that does not have gaps or cutouts, a bee veil, and gloves.

Probably: A seasoned beekeeper no longer keeps count of stings. That being said, the classes are designed to acclimate the student to handling the bees in a smooth and thoughtful manner that will minimize the risk of stings. Also, apiary rules require full coverage. We cover safety on day one.

Will there be coffee?

Yes, but you may want to bring your own travel mug. There will be coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Course Description:

This intermediate beekeeping course consists of classroom sessions, homework assingments, quizes, final exam and hands-on lessons in the bee yard. Participants should have taken an Introductory Beekeeping workshop or course and have at least one season of beekeeping experience prior to attending.
