Beekeeping 101 Workshop
Working with Bees: Building Skills for Sustainable Futures
Learn from our beekeeper about the supplies, equipment, and care required to nurture a colony of bees from establishment through honey harvest and beyond. This event is catered to beekeeping beginners and will involve a hands-on component where we will explore Morven Kitchen Garden's bee hives. For this workshop, participants will learn how to prepare hives for the upcoming winter so that the colonies are able to safely hibernate.
Protective clothing will be provided, although loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing, as well as closed-toe, non-mesh shoes are reccommended. Our bees are docile under most circumstances, however, those with severe allergies or an unknown reactions to bee stings should be advised. All ticket proceeds go to supporting the Morven Sustainability Lab. If our ticket price would constitute financial hardship, email morvenkitchengarden@virginia.edu to organize a reduced rate.
Guests must provide their own transportation to this event. Guests will check in at the Gatehouse upon arriving to receive directions for parking.
