About Bee Aware

In March 2019, the Award-winning university course, Producing the Documentary, taught by Dr. Maria Luskay with Prof. Lou Guarneri and student filmmakers, were set to document and follow urban beekeeping on rooftops in Paris and follow beekeepers in Laon, France. The twenty student filmmakers had completed all of the research, set up the interviews, packed the equipment and were ready to head to France. Then, the unimaginable happened - a global pandemic. Travel restrictions prevented the filmmakers from flying overseas. Pace University shut down. Life as we all knew it came to a standstill. However, the tenacious team persevered, pivoted, and planned for Plan B - filming throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. Although the course, Producing the Documentary, came to a close in May of 2020, students have remarkably continued to dedicate their time and passion to the project. Bee Aware stresses the importance of bees and their effect on our world, highlights beekeepers from the Northeast and their roles, and finally proposes how we can support bees and promote awareness.
