Piloted in 2021, "WELLderness: An Outdoor Wellness Series" was developed to bring members of the community together (in person and online) to engage in activities that would have a positive impact on their physical and mental health and well-being. Throughout the year, people have the opportunity to participate in FREE events that center around fostering better connections to self and the environment.
**Masks are no longer required. They remain optional for those who wish to wear one during a Friends event**
About the Instructor
Wisdom-Ife Baker is an educator, community advocate, social media strategist, and creative entrepreneur committed to self-discovery, healing, and cultural preservation. A recent Howard University graduate with a background in Strategic Communications and Criminology, she channels her expertise into uplifting communities through education, media, and intentional creativity. As the founder of Bead Love Jewelry and Bese Saka Social Media, she blends artistry, affirmations, and strategy to empower individuals while reinforcing their vital role in the collective. An African-centered kindergarten teacher and advocate for both personal and communal growth, Wisdom-Ife is dedicated to creating safe, affirming spaces for learning, reflection, and transformation.
What you will be doing
Beads of Loving Empowerment: Affirmations & Journaling in Nature with Wisdom-Ife is a community-centered wellness session designed to foster personal empowerment, self-expression, and a deeper connection to nature. In this safe and supportive space, participants of all ages (children/youth invited) will engage in reflective journaling/drawing, affirming their personal growth, uplifting each other, and creating beaded affirmation bracelets with intention-setting. Participants will leave the session not only with a personalized beaded bracelet but also a sense of empowerment and clarity in their personal journey and their role in making their communities a better place.
When
Sunday, August 3, 2025 at 2pm. Check-in opens at 1:45pm.
Where
Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, 1550 Anacostia Ave Northeast, Washington, DC 20019. Participants will meet at the picnic area past the visitor center.
Getting There
By car, there is a large visitors parking lot at the park entrance on Anacostia Ave and abundant street parking surrounding the park. By Metro, the park entrance is 1.0 mile from the Deanwood Metro Station and 1.3 miles from the Minnesota Ave Station, both on the Orange Line. By foot or bike, access the park via the Anacostia River Trail.
What to Bring
Participants should bring a water bottle, snack, bug spray, sun protection, and/or anything else one may carry when spending time outdoors. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for being outdoors.
