BEACON LITWORKS: Writing Workshops is a sponsored project of BeaconARTS, a nonprofit service organization.
Join us on Sunday, June 15, 2025 as we launch our series of professionally led writing workshops and designed to build your unique voice and help you connect with fellow writers in and around Beacon, NY.
We're certain, whether you're a seasoned writer or just starting out, each of our individual workshops will help you discover something new:

10:00am-11:55am POETRY-Kristen Holt-Browning
Using prompts and constraints, participants will learn how to play with language and line, metaphor, and rhythm to create meaningful poems. Prepare to push into the possibilities of what poems can do, and be.
12:00pm -1:55pm AUTOFICTION/MEMOIR-Josh Boardman
Guided writing exercises will be used to explore the blurry line between fiction and nonfiction. We will discuss the controversy surrounding autofiction vs memoir and different types of life writing.
2:00pm-3:55pm STORY in SONG-Stephen Clair
Writers are encouraged to throw themselves into the act of songwriting without hesitation. Practical skills and tools are shared and implemented to help participants create powerful, insightful, and heartfelt songs. For all levels.
4:00pm-5:55pm ESSAY/JOURNALISM-Andrew H. Salomon
In this workshop, participants will learn principles of nonfiction (non memoir) reportage and focus on how to generate story ideas, refine interview techniques, and build an article or essay.
6:00pm-7:55pm FICTION-Peter Ullian
Participants will be led through a series of guided fiction writing exercises designed to spark imagination and practice craft while embracing each writer's unique voice and experience. Be prepared to share your work with the class!

We're planning a series of intensives throughout 2025 -These first selections will follow the popular Beacon Litfest-so you might want to make a weekend of it!

Frequently asked questions
BeaconArts is the nonprofit fiscal sponsor of Beacon LITWORKS. Ticket proceeds and donations are collected and administered by the nonprofit organization. Our primary goal is to benefit our community. Every dollar goes to paying our instructors and keeping costs low for workshop participation.
Each in person, two-hour workshop is an affordable 30. per ticket (compare with other professional writing workshops!). And, we limit attendance to no more than 12, so you're bound to have a fun and productive experience.
We are working on final arrangements for the workshops; rest assured all will be located on Beacon's Main St in close proximity to each other, so participants can attend multiple events if they wish.
Writing materials such as pens and paper or notepads will be provided. If you prefer to work digitally, please bring your own tablet or laptop. Some instructors may email you a week or two before the workshop date, if they wish you to prepare written notes or ideas to get started.
We are an entirely volunteer-run, nascent organization operating on low to no margins; we are unable to refund tickets. However, you may transfer or sell your ticket to another person; but please notify us of the new contact at beaconlitworks@gmail.com
