Be Heard - An Open Mic for Women's Voices
Overview
Be Heard is an open mic for women’s voices. Music and poetry welcome. Covers and originals welcome. Put your name in the hat starting at 6:30pm for a lottery, which closes at 6:50pm. Show starts at 7pm and goes until 9pm (ish), depending on the turnout. Each performer gets 5 minutes or one piece on stage. We move things along to make sure everyone gets a chance to play/ read and is not turned away. Come to share your song or story, or simply to listen and connect.
Hosted by India Nolen-Tuleja. India is a musician, event producer, and host who is heavily involved with artist advocacy here in Portland. Trained in music (and life) in Western Massachusetts, New York City, London, and Austin, she blends the rigor of the city with the heart of her small town New England roots and brings a unique enthusiasm and dedication to our community. She curated and hosted a Thursday Night Coffeehouse show at The Artichoke which featured all women-songwriters and it was through that experience that the idea for Be Heard was born. She loves facilitating opportunities for women to have more of a voice in the world, be with each other in community, and express themselves in a warm and inviting environment. She is thrilled to be more involved with growing this special place called The Artichoke.
