About this event
QGIS is a free, open-source software that can analyze, edit, and visualize geospatial data. This powerful software is comparable in functionality to Esri's ArcGIS, but can run on any operating system — and did we mention it's free? Whether you are new to GIS or have experience on another platform, this workshop will be great for you.
QGIS Certificate
BayGeo is now a certified QGIS training organization! By completing both this Intro workshop and the following Intermediate QGIS workshop, participants will receive a certificate from QGIS International. You can read more about these certificates here: certification.qgis.org
Learning Objectives
By completing this workshop, you will be able to use QGIS to tinker with spatial data, perform analysis to answer interesting questions, and make beautiful maps.
Whether you are totally new to GIS or have experience with ArcGIS and would like to transfer those skills to a non-proprietary platform, this workshop is a great place to start. The workshop will include interactive activities to guide you through essential GIS skills. It will also include time to analyze data of your choice and discover your inner cartographer by creating maps to communicate your results.
- Session 1: Creating, finding, loading, and exploring data from a variety of sources like WMS, .shp, .csv
- Session 2: Geoprocessing, joining, and interpolating data
- Session 3: Getting your map out there: using the layout, atlas, and publishing to webmap outputs to create appealing graphics
Workshop Dates:
- Tuesday, November 4 (4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Pacific time)
- Tuesday, November 11 (4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Pacific time)
- Tuesday, November 18 (4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Pacific time)
