Event description

Description

On October 17th, from 4:00-6:00, Blockchain at UCLA will be hosting blockchain and cryptocurrency professionals in the LA area to discuss how blockchain can help give access to bank accounts to the millions of people in America and around the world without access to one. Food will be provided!

Recent studies estimate that approximately 1.7 billion adults worldwide are unbanked, meaning they do not have an account at a financial institution or through a mobile money provider. There are dozens of reasons why certain people in the US and around the world do not have access to a bank account. Unsurprisingly, surveys show “not having enough money” to be the No. 1 reason people do not have bank accounts. Other reasons include distrust of banks, lack of financial literacy, unemployment, inconvenience, bank fees, and lack of banking services.

We will be discussing how blockchain and cryptocurrency can help solve this problem and hear from individuals and organizations in the blockchain industry who are attempting to tackle this issue.

There will also be a 30-minute period at the end of the event for people to network and talk with our speakers individually.

The speaker list is as follows:

Dana Alibrandi is a Product Owner at Dash Core Group where he manages the development of the Dash Platform and its two main architectural components: DAPI and Drive.
