Band Beyond Description w/ Kyle Ledson
- Crazy Horse Presents
Overview
If the Grateful Dead is your religion, then the Crazy Horse is your church when Third Thursday rolls around. Every month Jonny Mojo (Achilles Wheel), Gary Campus (Deadbeats) and Tim High (Tim High & the Mighty) host a cast of the finest musicians from around the region to conjure lightning in a bottle. BBD is a gathering point for everyone who wants to take a leap into the realm of possibility where that Grateful Dead magic still swirls freely. Serving as a gathering point for friends old and new, this event pulses with its own unique flavor. The music that bubbles forth from these nights captures the spontaneous, primal, orgasmic spirit that so many of us crave.
Carrying a humble mystique, Jonny has earned his status as the Obi Wan of the scene. He unfurls paths to the promised land with his incredibly versatile guitar playing and soulful vocal presence. He lives and breathes this music like a fish swimming in the sea. Gary emanates pure joy in every beat and gracefully adapts his style to elevate the strengths of his collaborators. Bringing a jazz sensibility aligned with the heyday of the Dead, he’s been a rhythmic instigator in the region for over 45 years and is more fired up than ever. Nothing makes Tim happier than singing Grateful Dead and JGB songs as is evident by his assertive and heartfelt renditions of the classics as well as obscurities. Like Mickey Mantle switch-hitting, he carries the power of Bob and the emotion of Jerry.
We try not to play favorites with any of our guest musicians, but there’s an undeniably cosmic vibe when Kyle Ledson enters the mix. He only steps away from his very busy touring schedule to join BBD once a year, so you know we have to take the utmost advantage of that. His band Broken Compass Bluegrass is skyrocketing lately and Kyle’s otherworldly talents seem to level up around every curve. This is also the only place to see him play electric guitar and that alone is worth the price of admission. We’ll make sure he brings his mandolin too.
We’ve only done double drums with BBD on a few occasions and we’re going all in here with Anna Elva and Gary creating a full Rhythm Devil experience. Anna is one of the most highly-respected Grateful Dead drummers all throughout Nor Cal. Musicians love playing with her and audiences love watching her. She’s been called “the dancing drummer” because of how bouncy she is back there. She literally seems like an octopus with the complex rhythms she is able to achieve.
It's always a treat to welcome the force of nature known as Jordan Feinstein. A frequent collaborator of Stu Allen’s as well as countless other Bay Area artists, Jordan is a tornado of relentlessly funky energy on the keys. He evokes the spirit of Brent Mydland while also possessing the versatility to represent any era of the Dead. Always donning his signature top hat, he is a sparkplug ready to ignite any dancefloor. Returning on bass is a longtime BBD favorite, Mike Meagher. Mike is rock steady with his hypnotic grooves and fun-loving stage presence. This one is going to be extra special!
