About this Event

Great Data Minds is honored to have Joe Reis and Matt Housley from Ternary Data provide their perspective on the differences between Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform, as it pertains to data and AI services.

Intended for a business minded audience, this one hour, slide-free session provides the audience with key differentiators for each platform, along with information around key areas such as capabilities, security, infrastructure, cost models and more.

Joe Reis - CEO/Co-Founder

Joe is business-minded math nerd who’s worked behind the scenes and on the frontlines of companies large and small. He understands firsthand that winning with data means more than just having the right tech tools.

He enjoys helping companies make sense of their culture, processes, and architecture so they can go from dreaming to doing. He is certified in both AWS and Google Cloud and when not working, you can find him at one of the two groups he co-founded—The Utah Data Engineering Meetup and SLC Python. Joe also sits on the board of Utah Python, a non-profit dedicated to advocating Python in Utah.

Matthew Housley - CTO/Co-Founder

Matt started in the academic world as a math professor before joining Overstock as a data scientist in 2015. There, he quickly saw a need to overhaul processes, improve teamwork, and incorporate engineering best practices to deliver real value to the company. He started to focus more on data and cloud engineering, working extensively with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Containers, Apache Airflow and GPUs, among other technologies. He has also achieved certifications in AWS and Google Cloud.
