Event description

Can't attend in person? Check out our live stream:

We all know is the largest e-commerce marketplace and cloud computing platform in the world as measured by revenue and market capitalization, but beyond the prime 2-day loving shopper what else does Amazon offer? Amazon Web Services, or AWS!

Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud solution that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis.

AWS is a subsidiary of Amazon. The technology allows users to provision servers, manage users, write code without the worry of infrastructure and much more.

Galvanize alumnus Austin Loveless is excited to introduce you to the world of AWS!

Meetup Description: Live Stream:

Let's dive into some buzz words!

What is serverless?

What is VTL (Apache Velocity Template Language)?

Why you should use it over lambda?

We'll walk through a GitHub repo and together build a totally serverless API utilizing AWS Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, and, for automation, use AWS SAM.

To prepare for the course I'd suggest:

1. Creating an AWS account.

2. Read this tutorial on how to create a serverless API:

3. Watch the last live stream: Download Node.js

5. Download Docker:

6. Download AWS CLI and AWS SAM CLI:

Who is this for?

This workshop is for anyone interested in cloud computing, all that is required is a laptop and the desire to learn.

Join our AWS Slack workplace!

About Our Presenter:

Austin Loveless is a Galvanize Web Development Immersive graduate and a certified AWS Solutions Architect working as a Software Engineer at Entercom in Denver. To prepare for the AWS Certification he incorporated AWS services in every project he built during his time at Galvanize. Prior to Galvanize, Austin was in the Navy and attended college where he fell in love with software. Now he works hands on with Node and AWS. In his spare time he likes to work on building a competitive CodeWars app for mobile devices, allowing users to do coding challenges through a mobile app.

What we are about:

Alumni Led Learning is a workshop series for anyone interested in diving into topics related to software engineering. Led by Galvanize's Software Engineering program alumni, designers, and passionate life long learners, these hands-on sessions will cover such diverse topics as cloud computing services, various programming languages, and emergent technologies. All skill levels are welcome!
