AWE: expect the unexpected
Saturday, March 18, 2017, 6pm | Fremont Studios, Seatte
Join The Mountaineers at Fremont Studios in Seattle as we honor a mountaineering legend. Dinner, reception, and auction will all be part of a night to remember to advance The Mountaineers to inspire conservation through outdoor adventure.
Our featured guest will be ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers. She'll be joined by legendary mountaineer Dee Molenaar, who is being honored with The Mountaineers Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by alpinist Mike Gauthier.
Featured Speaker: Kit DesLauriers
Kit DesLauriers is a member of The North Face Global Athlete Team, two-time World Freeskiing Champion, and the first person in the world to have skied off the top of the Seven Summits – the highest points on each of the 7 continents. In 2010, Kit made several first ski descents in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge of Alaska and counts these among the favorites in her life. Kit and her husband enjoy raising their two young daughters in a way that encourages their appreciation for the natural world.
Honoring: Dee Molenaar
The Mountaineers Lifetime Achievement award is an annual honor given to a member of The Mountaineers community for their lifetime of contributions to the outdoor community. This year we are proud to honor Dee Molenaar. 76-year Mountaineers member Dee Molenaar is a legendary Mountaineer, celebrated artist, early Mt. Rainier guide, and Mountaineers Books author of The Challenge of Rainier.
Presented By: Mike Gauthier
Mike Gauthier, author, photographer, and former lead climbing and rescue ranger at Mt. Rainier National Park, Gauthier serves as Chief of Staff for the Superintendent of Yosemite National Park. In 2008 he was selected as one of two National Parks Service recipients nationwide for the Bevinetto Congressional Fellowship, a two-year training and development program within the National Park Service’s Office of Legislative and Congressional Affairs in Washington DC.
Proceeds from this event directly support The Mountaineers efforts to give underserved youth outdoor experiences, publish books to inspire future generations of adventurers, steward and advocate for your public lands and waters, and equip volunteers to share a passion for adventure and love of the outdoors.
