About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour
Discover 6 seasonal avocado varieties through a talk + tasting with Apricot Lane Farms’ Orchard Manager & resident avo expert, John S.

Join our Orchard Manager, John Schoustra, for a discussion and guided tasting of Apricot Lane Farms’ Biodynamic avocados, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the rich flavors and unique characteristics of six seasonal varieties.

Grown using regenerative farming practices, our avocados reflect the health of the soil they come from, thanks to biodiversity and careful land stewardship. You’ll learn how to identify each variety at its peak ripeness, what to do if you cut into one too soon, and which variety might be right for you to grow at home. After tasting ripe samples of all six, you’ll head home with one of each—and plenty of inspiration. Be sure to bring your avocado questions for John Schoustra, our farm’s Orchard Manager and one of Southern California’s most respected organic avocado growers!

Featured avocado varieties:

  • Lamb Hass

About John Schoustra

John Schoustra is our Orchard Manager here at Apricot Lane Farms, where he oversees 40+ acres of avocado orchards (15+ varieties), and is a longtime grower of organic avocados. For over 15 years, he has cultivated a thriving avocado orchard on hillside terrain by using tree-chip mulch for soil health and applying less than one acre-foot of water per acre, all while managing diseases and pest issues naturally, and avoiding synthetic fertilizers and chemical sprays. Recognized by peers as one of Southern California’s most experimental and generous avocado growers, his practices focus on soil-building, thoughtful pruning techniques, and cultivation of biodiversity.
