This is a 2 part series. An online classroom portion includes the following topics:

Intro to Avalanches and Avalanche Terrain Recognition
Mountain Weather and the development of Seasonal Snowpack
Decision Making and the Human Factor
Avalanche Rescue

Field portion information is below. Participants must watch recorded lectures prior to their field session.

There will be a LIVE Question and Answer session January 4th at 7:00pm via ZOOM. Friends of GNFAC will present a summary of each presentation and host a short question and answer session on each topic.

Registration Information

ONE Field Day session is included with each ticket. Select the day you would like to attend your field session and there will be a ticket option for you. If you are interested in the online classroom portion ONLY, select any day and choose 'classroom only'.

Snowmobile Specific sessions will be hosted at Buck Ridge Trailhead 9:00am-3:00pm.

** Participants in the snowmobile field day must have your own sled and feel comfortable with basic backcountry riding. An avalanche beacon, shovel and probe are required. No tandem riding allowed.

Cost: $40.00 - Proceeds go to the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and includes and BCA Slope Meter and ECT cord.
