Overview

Learn about avalanche safety from the experts at Colorado Avalanche Information Center

Join the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC), Estes Valley Library, and the Rocky Mountain Conservancy for a free avalanche awareness presentation with expert Mike Cooperstein from CAIC.

Avalanche Aware is a one-hour introduction to avalanches and avalanche safety developed by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE), CAIC, and the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC). The program is designed for people of all ages and experience levels who want to learn about, or avoid, avalanche terrain, whether they travel on skis, snowshoes, snowmobiles, or foot.

This engaging presentation will cover the basics of avalanche hazards, terrain recognition, and decision-making to help you stay safe in Colorado’s winter backcountry.

Space is limited. Advance registration is required.

Waitlist information:

This presentation has a seating capacity of 50 people. Once all seats are reserved, additional registrants will be placed on a waitlist.

Even if you’re on the waitlist, you are welcome to attend the event. There will be standing room available, and because this is a free program, it’s common for some reserved seats to open up the night of the presentation.

We encourage you to come by even if you’re waitlisted. There’s a good chance seating space will become available.
