Course Overview:
This hybrid training program is designed to give firefighters, EMTs, and rescue personnel the advanced skills needed to handle complex vehicle incidents. Using Jones & Bartlett’s Vehicle Rescue and Extrication: Principles and Practice, Revised 2nd Edition, students will complete one month of independent study before attending a dynamic, hands-on weekend at the MERIT Center in Marshall.
Topics Covered Include:
- Advanced auto extrication techniques
- Heavy rescue operations (including large vehicle scenarios)
- Electric vehicle (EV) fire & rescue tactics
- Live car fire suppression
- Stabilization, disentanglement, and tool operations
- Tactical decision-making and scene safety
Certification:
Upon successful completion of the course (including written and hands-on evaluations), participants will receive a North Star Training Auto Extrication Technician Certification. This course is based on and exceeds NFPA 1670 Technician-level standards.
