What does the term Book Design actually mean?

Book design includes every visible element you see when you hold a book in your hand or on a digital platform. Bill Wiist will lead the conversation about things you took for granted that have a critical impact on the final product: font/lettering choices, illustration, cover images, back matter, spine art...

About the Speaker: W.S. (Bill) Wiist is a professional designer, illustrator, and writer who lives in central Pennsylvania. When not designing books, you can find him in the field, painting plein air, or on Substack, writing a weekly kidlit newsletter entitled WiistLore. In The Mystery of A Nubbins, he brings all of these experiences together between two covers to create a richly imagined adventure that feels like it stepped straight out of the Golden Age of Illustration.

Authors and Coffee is a four week workshop series designed to help authors gain a better understanding of all the elements that help a book find it's way onto bookstore, library and reader's bookshelf.
