Austin Poetry Slam Presents The Second Sunday Free Writing Workshop
Overview
Join us for Dialogue Through Poetry, part of our 2nd Sundays Free Writing Workshop series with Austin Poetry Slam. This afternoon session is all about poems that are meant to be heard – the kind that live in your body as much as on the page.
In this interactive workshop, Ryan Rutkoskie will walk participants through what makes a piece truly stage-centered: how word choice, line breaks, rhythm, and breath shape the way a poem lands on a live audience. Through guided prompts and low-pressure sharing, you will experiment with turning personal stories and big ideas into performance-ready work, exploring how to match your writing to your voice, presence, and delivery.
Whether you are brand new to spoken word or a regular on the mic, this space invites you to draft, revise, and play. You will leave with new tools for writing with performance in mind, plus at least one piece you can keep developing for the slam, the open mic, or your own creative practice.
About Ryan Rutkoskie:

He has competed in Las Vegas, Austin Poetry Slam, and Riches Art Gallery, and has featured on stages across Texas and Utah. Ryan’s work sits at the intersection of vulnerability, humor, and heartbreak, inviting listeners into a tender, reflective, and sometimes painfully honest emotional space.
