About this event
Teaching Mathematics through Big Ideas and Connections
Help students experience mathematics as a rich, connected, and meaningful subject. This interactive workshop focuses on teaching through big ideas—core mathematical concepts that unify and elevate individual standards. Research shows that this approach increases student engagement and achievement and supports learning for all students.
Designed for K–12 teachers, leaders, and administrators, this workshop offers strategies for engaging all learners through open-ended, in-depth content. Participants will:
- Explore grade-specific big ideas and mathematical standards in targeted breakout groups
- Investigate how to prioritize and connect standards across domains
- Experience tasks and approaches that foster curiosity, depth, and understanding
Featuring a keynote by Jo Boaler, join Cathy Williams and the youcubed team live online to discover how teaching through big ideas can transform your math classroom! Bring your team to plan and get the year off to a great start!
The workshop begins at 9:00 am each day and ends at 3:00 pm each day. Participants will receive a digital credential verifying 10 Professional Development Hours (1 CEU).

Please note that each participant must log into the workshop individually, from their own device, to be admitted to the workshop. We encourage teams of educators from the same school or district to participate in the workshop together, and we offer discounted tickets for groups of 2 or more, but to be admitted to the Zoom each team member must have a ticket associated with their name. If multiple people from your school or district are planning to attend this workshop, please create a group order using the "Get Tickets" button on this page, and add the number of people attending to your cart. You will then be prompted to provide information about the attendees during checkout, which will enable them to each be admitted individually to the workshop.
All registered participants will receive an email one week before the workshop with a Zoom link and password. After the event, we will provide a recording and a link to all slides or other resources used in the workshop . This post-workshop email will be sent to all registered participants, regardless of whether they logged into the event (so even participants who aren’t able to attend the event live on the scheduled dates will still receive the recording and workshop materials) and will be available up to one year after the event.
