Audition Tips for Aspiring Actors

Maybe you were a band kid but you always looked at the theatre kids and wondered what that was all about. Maybe you did some plays in high school but you want to get back into it. Maybe you're reaching a turning point in your life and just want to do something different. Wherever you are in life, acting is a great way to explore the various shades of your personality. But auditioning for a play or film project? Yikes. So scary, right? It doesn't have to be. Amy Crowl will work through the basics of how to find auditions near you, choosing a monologue, determining your character type(s), and cold readings. Performers will leave with a potential audition piece and skills they can apply in their next (or first!) audition. Participants are encouraged to bring their own monologues they're interested in working on, or Amy will provide resources to find one during the workshop. An internet-capable device is encouraged, along with comfy shoes and a spirit of risk taking.

About Amy:

Amy Crowl (she/her) is a multidisciplinary theatre artist and teacher who seeks to deepen relationships with students and activate their creative potential through the process of performance. She is a high school IB Theatre Teacher, Director, and Performer who finds that when her soul is wilting, creativity can be rejuvenating. As a "neurospicy" adult and a working mom of twins, she is looking forward to engaging with other caretakers in helping them find their creative voice (again).
