Overview
CO2 removed achieves net negative
To limit global warming to 1.5º with little or no overshoot, it is necessary to use carbon dioxide removal in the order of 100-1000GtCO2 over the 21st century.
This removal would compensate for residual emissions and, in most cases, achieve net negative emissions to return global warming to 1.5°C following a peak. However carbon cycle and climate system understanding is still limited about the effectiveness of net negative emissions to reduce temperatures after they do peak.
