This unique project retrofits a historic 20th century 200 sf detached garage space into a studio/gallery space for the owner.

Meet the Project Team

Nancy Smith Klos: (nancyklos@gmail.com / www.ateliernangallery.com / 503-957-9938): Artist/Designer/Instructor and owner of “Atelier NAN” Gallery, which celebrates 35 years creating & producing original art for a national clientele. Nancy will highlight her vision for the space.
Ken Klos: Architect, registered in Oregon and Washington. He became a CPHC in 2011 and tries to incorporate Passive House principles with every project he undertakes. Ken will outline his experience working with the program set by the Owner (Artist Nancy Klos). He will also highlight the design challenges with the project; location and condition of the existing building (against 2 property lines and structurally needing deep overhauling), and the design restrictions of the Irvington Historical District (strict mandates for historic relevance but, to a degree, flexible).
Sushruta Chandramouli: Project GC and owner/operator of ShruudCo LLC. Sushruta became a CPHC in 2024 and is passionate about high-performance building and design. He will discuss his experience bringing together the build phase of the project, passive building detailing, and lessons learned about working with an old structure.
