ASME San Diego Section: Nip Shah Memorial Water Bottle Rocket Launch

It's time again for our annual Nip Shah Memorial Water Bottle Rocket Launch event! Launching water rockets is a safe and exciting way for K-12 students to learn about the forces that determine the flight trajectory of a rocket.

The body of the rocket is an empty, plastic, two-liter soda bottle. To increase stability, fins can be attached to the bottom of the bottle and mass can be added underneath a nose cone attached to the top of the bottle. Prior to launch, the bottle is partially filled with water and mounted on a custom-made launcher that holds the rocket in place while the remaining volume is pressurized with air. The most exciting part is pulling the release cord and watching it go! 

The event will be held on Saturday, May 31st between 10am and 2pm at Gompers Park, 4926 Hilltop Dr, San Diego, CA 92102. View and share our event flier below to help spread the word!
