Ask the Midwife: A Community Q&A for Doulas and Birth Professionals

Overview

Connect, learn, and grow with midwives and birth professionals at this community Q&A and potluck dinner event

Join us for an evening of connection, learning, and community at ✨ Ask a Midwife: A Community Q&A for Doulas and Birth Professionals

This in-person event is designed to rebuild camaraderie and collaboration within our birth community — a space to come together, share knowledge, and strengthen relationships between midwives, doulas, and other birth professionals.

Alongside a panel of nurse-midwife colleagues, midwife Emily Rumsey, CNM, will lead an open Q&A discussion focused on the current landscape of hospital-based midwifery care, including focussing on higher risk diagnoses like hypertension, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes for better understanding of the "why" behind clinical recommendations. There will also be ample opportunity to discuss lower risk themes as well like promoting physiologic birth in the hospital, writing birth preferences, elective inductions, and placental delivery ("third stage management").

We’ll have a community-style potluck dinner so we can enjoy food and meaningful conversation as we reconnect and learn from one another. Bring a favorite dish, salad, or appetizer to share — beverages will be provided by Awake Pelvic Health. (A potluck sign-up will be sent out closer to the event.)

You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, engage in thoughtful dialogue, and learn from the collective experience of others who work in the birth space every day.

• 💬 Open Q&A with midwives on current practices and “hot topics” in maternity care
