Dear ASID Tennessee Members, Industry Partners, and Design Community,

It is with great pride and excitement that we invite you to attend the 2025 ASID Tennessee Chapter State Conference, taking place on Thursday, September 18 and Friday, September 19, 2025. This year’s conference is a particularly meaningful occasion as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the American Society of Interior Designers. Our theme, “A Legacy in Motion,” reflects the ongoing impact of our profession across generations and the vibrant future that lies ahead. A time to celebrate the past, honor the present, and inspire the future-where generations of excellence continue to shape our world.

We are honored to host this two-day event in two inspiring locations: Riverside Revival in Nashville and the MTSU Concrete and Construction Management Facility in Murfreesboro, located on the campus of MTSU.

Candid Conversations- Navigating Generational Differences

An in-depth discussion on understanding generational bias, its impact on interpersonal interactions, and how this knowledge can be applied to foster effective communication across generations. This course explores how upbringing and sociocultural context contribute to generational implicit biases about age. Participants will engage with generational profiles (Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Baby Boomers) to reflect on how these biases manifest in interpersonal and professional settings. Through evidence-based discussion, learners will gain insight into fostering intergenerational understanding and reducing age-related bias.

Portfolio Review to Follow.

Creating a livable environment in a multigenerational household

"Today our life expectancy is expected to exceed 113+ years creating families that might span four generations. Parents move in with grown children as they retire to be closer to family or to support assisting with the daily activities of grandchildren, while college graduates leave home to start their professional careers. COVID created a world-wide crisis overnight forcing governments and businesses to come to a screeching halt ifthey were not essential workers. People worldwide were forced to isolate and adapt to a new environment that made home now the office, the gym, the classroom, the playground or the hair salon, etc. Multigenerational housing now had a new definition overnight and has become the top priority for housing. So, how does a designer today create a livable environment that might accommodate three or four generations under one roof? How are universal, adaptable, accessible, visitable and livable principles applied in creating a multigenerational environment?"
