    SESSION DESCRIPTIONS

    1. AANHPI Contributions to U.S. Progress and Democratic Values

Over the past 25 years, Asian Americans have played a pivotal role in shaping the success of the United States—driving innovation, strengthening communities, and advancing the ideals of democracy. This session highlights the often-overlooked contributions of Asian Americans in fields such as technology, education, public service, arts, healthcare, and civic engagement. Participants will explore powerful stories of leadership, resilience, and advocacy that have helped promote inclusion, equity, and democratic participation. Through historical context and contemporary examples, this session will celebrate the legacy and ongoing influence of Asian Americans in building a stronger, more just America.

    2. Understanding How Executive Orders Affect AANHPI Communities

This session provides an in-depth look at how President Donald Trump’s executive orders—ranging from immigration policy to national security measures—have directly and indirectly impacted Asian American communities. Participants will explore key executive actions such as changes to visa programs, the ban on DEI initiatives, and heightened immigration enforcement, and analyze their legal, social, and cultural consequences. The rescission of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders is viewed as a denial of these communities and a step back in advancing equity. We will unpack the broader implications of these policies on civil rights, public perception, and the sense of belonging among Asian Americans. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how federal power shapes community experiences—and how to engage in advocacy and civic action moving forward.

    3. Borders and Belonging: U.S. Immigration Policy and Its Impact on AANHPI Communities

Immigration policies in the United States continue to evolve in ways that adversely affect AANHPI communities. This session examines policies around visas, deportation, asylum, family reunification, and national security—and how they affect ethnic and religious minorities. Participants will explore the intersection of race, religion, and immigration enforcement, and learn how xenophobia and discrimination have shaped policy outcomes. Through personal narratives, legal analysis, and community case studies, attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how these communities are navigating the system—and what steps can be taken to advocate for more just and inclusive immigration reforms.

    4. From Community to Capitol: Mobilizing Asian Americans for Civic Leadership and Political Power

This workshop aims to empower Asian Americans to step into roles of civic leadership and political influence. Despite growing in numbers and impact, Asian American communities are often underrepresented in government, policymaking, and advocacy spaces. Through interactive discussions and real-world case studies, participants will explore the importance of civic engagement, understand the barriers that have limited political participation, and learn concrete strategies to get involved—from voting and community organizing to running for office. Whether you’re new to civic action or already active in your community, this session will provide the tools, inspiration, and connections needed to turn engagement into lasting impact.

    5. Public Safety: Confronting the Causes of Hate Crimes and Harassment

Hate crimes and harassment against ethnic and religious communities are not isolated events—they’re the result of deep-rooted societal forces and policy failures. This workshop explores the underlying causes of anti-immigrant violence and discrimination, including political scapegoating, racial bias, Islamophobia, economic myths, and harmful media narratives. We’ll examine how certain policies—such as harsh immigration enforcement, discriminatory surveillance, and exclusionary rhetoric—have normalized fear and hostility toward members of AANHPI communities. We’ll also highlight the roles individuals and institutions play, from political leaders who use inflammatory language to systems that marginalize ethnic voices. Most importantly, this session empowers attendees to take action—through community organizing, civic engagement, allyship, and advocacy for policies that promote safety, inclusion, and human dignity.

    6. Many Faiths, One Nation: Religious Freedom and Tolerance in Today’s America

In a nation founded on the principle of religious freedom, how well are we living up to that ideal today? This panel brings together faith leaders, scholars, and advocates to discuss the current state of religious freedom and tolerance in the United States. From rising religious discrimination to debates over policy and public expression, panelists will explore the challenges faced by diverse religious communities—including Muslims, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, and others. The discussion will also highlight efforts to build interfaith understanding, protect civil liberties, and promote inclusive practices across institutions. Join us for a thoughtful and timely conversation about how we can strengthen the promise of religious freedom for all.

    7. Next Gen Leaders in Civic Engagement, Community Service, and Politics

Join us for an inspiring panel discussion featuring dynamic young AANHPI leaders who are making a powerful impact in civic life, community service, and political spaces. From organizing grassroots movements to holding public office and leading nonprofit initiatives, these role models are redefining what it means to lead with purpose and representation. Panelists will share their personal journeys, the challenges they’ve faced, and the unique perspectives they bring to public service. Attendees will gain insight into how young generations of Asian Americans are shaping the future of democracy—and learn how to get involved and lead in their own communities.

    8. Advocacy Training

Ready to turn your voice into action? This hands-on training will equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to visit the offices of our elected officials on Wednesday, September 17th. You’ll learn how to connect with your representative and their staffs and to deliver a compelling message. Whether you’re new to advocacy or looking to sharpen your approach, this session will provide practical tools and insider tips to help you make your voice heard and drive real change in your community and beyond.

    9. AAUC Hub and News Portal Press Conference

Join AAUC for a special press conference on September 17th at the National Press Club to unveil AAPI News & Voices and the AAPI Hub. AAPI News & Voices is a new digital portal dedicated to amplifying news, events, and stories relevant to the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. It will serve as a trusted source for culturally informed journalism, community updates, policy developments, and grassroots voices from across the country. The AAPI Hub is an online application that turns vast amounts of data about voters, elected officials, and organizations into actionable information that can be used in advocacy programs and political campaigns. Both of these services from AAUC are a must-see! Be among the first to explore their features and learn how they will empower, inform, and connect AAPI communities nationwide.

    10. Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

This session will brainstorm ways the AANHPI community can celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. Some ideas include reflecting on the promise of liberty and justice while acknowledging that those ideals were not always extended to all; hosting events discussions, or exhibits that explore how Asian Americans have fought for inclusion, civil rights, and democratic values; organizing voter registration drives, town halls, or advocacy campaigns centered around strengthening democracy and representation; and encouraging participation in local government, school boards, and community boards as a reflection of the founding spirit of self-governance. Bring your ideas!
