Asher Perlman & Tom Toro
Overview
New Yorker cartoonists Asher Perlman and Tom Toro discuss their new cartoon collections Hi, It’s Me Again and And to Think We Started As a Book Club….
About Hi, It's Me Again
A cartoon book that will change your life. Ideally, for the better.
Hi, It’s Me Again is the second collection from New Yorker cartoonist and The Late Show writer Asher Perlman. It comes just one year after his national bestselling debut, Well, This Is Me, and it raises important questions like, “Was this too quick to come out with another book?” and “No, seriously, will people buy this one?”
Stephen Colbert calls Asher “very funny" and "keenly attuned to the inherent strangeness of existence.” Ben Stiller says Asher’s cartoons are “the kind of funny that makes you question what it is to be a person.” And Mahatma Gandhi says, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” That one isn’t as relevant here, but it’s still nice to keep in mind.
Anxiety, OCD, the human condition, death—these are just a few of the lighthearted themes explored in this book. A well-proportioned blend of single panel cartoons and longer narrative pieces, Hi, It’s Me Again has it all, from a vampire stress-drinking blood, to a pinata pressuring her son into being beaten to death by children. And there are some less violent cartoons as well.
One thing is certain: Hi, It’s Me Again is the best compilation of Asher’s cartoons since his last cartoon compilation, and it will certainly remain the best at least until his next.
About And to Think We Started as a Book Club...
What can Leonardo DiCaprio, Bernie Sanders, Greta Thunberg, and Elon Musk all agree on? That Tom Toro's cartoons belong in their social media feeds. Now, with this debut collection by one of The New Yorker's contemporary stars, everybody can enjoy the timeless witticism and thigh-slapping wisecracks of Toro's cartoons without needing to go online.
In Tom Toro's hilarious world, the Grim Reaper binges television while Superman shops for health insurance. The collection features original chapter art that sets the perfect tone for these brilliant cartoons and what they reveal about the absurdity of modern life, all drawn in the author's wry and winsome style
Showcasing hundreds of Toro's greatest hits from his fifteen-year career at the New Yorker, as well as previously unpublished cartoons that we shouldn't shy from calling "undiscovered masterpieces," this book is sure to delight readers—if not outright corrupt them.
