About this event
Drawing upon her years of research and practice in pre-disaster community resilience and post-disaster community recovery, Laurie Johnson will share her insights as to the path forward for achieving the “Vision 2050 – A Seismically Resilient San Diego” set forth in the San Diego Earthquake Planning Scenario for a M6.9 on the Rose Canyon Fault. She will consider the resilience impacts of other scenario studies and resilience planning and policymaking efforts that she has been involved with in the San Francisco Bay Area and elsewhere. Her post-disaster insights on “building back better” will reflect upon the 1995 Kobe and 2011 Tohoku earthquakes in Japan and the 2011 earthquakes in Christchurch New Zealand, all of which are covered in her recent book, After Great Disasters: An In-Depth Analysis of How Six Countries Managed Community Recovery.
