Event description

Many of you should be aware of the current situation, where Hurricane Irma has caused the whole Florida to stop. All of our partner institutions will be closed on the weekend of the event, and we understand that the first priority now is for Miami to be safe.

We are taking measurements to postpone the event, which is currently canceled as many of the participants were running on a very tight schedule and cannot be flexible to stay an extra day or two.

We really appreciate it that you managed to make a space for us in your agenda and were willing to come all the way to South Florida to meet with us. We would like to thank you from the bottom of our heart!

We’d like to offer our apologies for the changes and hope that we can count on you in a different occasion after the hurricane is history. We will keep you posted on any other development of the project.

Best regards, and be safe!

Art+Hack+Data is a weekend-long, free, and non-commercial social artistry event in Miami where media creators and hackers will discuss and work together on issues about the digital environment, while also helping other participants understand them and find their own means of creative expression.

Our goal is to reach local new media artists and tech-enthusiasts to solidify the scene of creative makers and bring them together to set the values and new standards that will prevent digital oppression, censorship, and surveillance for future generations.

A very important part of the project are the Guerrilla Hotspots. We will be implementing free Internet access points to random users around the City of Miami, Puerto Rico and Los Angeles (during Siggraph 2017) prior to the event. With the participants’ consent, we will be collecting anonymous information on Internet usage which will later be used in the workshops for artistic creation. This process emulates everyday data collection by regular internet providers.

Registration is free. You should register separately for each of the following segments.

Conference at the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM)

Pérez Art Museum

A carefully curated, 2-day conference program that features a delicate blend of contemporary artists, authors and researchers discussing topics such as Internet principles, physical infrastructures, big data, surveillance, virtual realities, and the Internet as a medium and support for artistic creation. Please register here:

WORKSHOPS at the Audrey Love Gallery, Bakehouse Art Complex (BAC)

Allowing 10 participants each, these workshops are led by most of the speakers at the Conference. Anonymous Internet usage data from the Guerrilla Hotspots will be available for creation.

An exciting evening of live performances and music, featuring a guest DJ, video mappings, real-time data streaming on video projections, and the opening reception for the interactive exhibition, “Media Under Dystopia” that gathers the results of the workshops and more.

For DAY ONE of Conference at PAMM (10 AM, Friday – September 8th) register here:
