Artful Closures: Knotting Tradition Workshop
Create a handcrafted Chinese knot button and experience textile heritage
Drawing from the rare fabrics collected over decades, our workshop embodies the harmony between heritage and mindful making.
What to Expect
🕯️ Arrival & Welcome (10-15minutes)
Sip Yunnan sun‑dried tea and nibble traditional snacks while you explore our curated collection, hand‑grown fabrics, dyed and woven in China during the 1960s with care and tradition.
🎤 Opening Remarks (5 minutes)
Learn the story of Joy Studio, how Aying’s upbringing in Hangzhou, working alongside her mother at the loom, inspired a craft‑based boutique in Fargo that honors ancient techniques and sustainable textiles.
🧵 Craft Session: Knotting Tradition (1.5 Hours)
Create your very own Chinese knot closure, a decorative fastener rooted in function, elegance, and tradition. Guided step‑by‑step, you’ll use cord, thread, and your own hands to make a button that closes as well as communicates a story.
☁️ Community & Reflection (Open)
Gather, share, and admire each other’s artistry. Enjoy the ambiance of Joy Studio’s trove of vintage cloth, touch the textures in person, and chat about slow fashion, sustainability, and handmade heritage.
