About this event

Art of Liberation, hosted by CA Black Women's Health Project's (CABWHP) Maternal & Reproductive Health Initiative and Upspoken, CABWHP's sexual and relational health initiative.

Join us for an empowering and transformative experience at Art of Liberation: A Celebration of the Black community's relational, reproductive & sexual health. This event is specifically designed for Black women of all gender identities and expressions, including cis, trans and femme women.

    Event Highlights:

    • We'll be healing through art. Art of Liberation showcases powerful visual art, evocative spoken word, storytelling, music and more, each offering a space for personal reflection and collective connection. Through creative expression, attendees will explore themes of liberation, self-care and empowerment, using art as a tool to center healing and joy.
    • We'll hear from a powerful panel featuring Black artists and advocates who explore art as a vital act of creative resistance and reclamation. They’ll share insights on how art can challenge systems, affirm identity and fuel collective healing.
    • A variety of interactive activations that invite connection, creativity and joy, including a tea bar and light bites. Don’t miss our giveaways featuring wellness-focused goodies designed to support your healing journey.
    • At Art of Liberation, a variety of health and wellness resources will be available to support your holistic well-being. Attendees can access information, care options and engage in conversations designed to empower and nurture physical, emotional and relational health in a safe and supportive space.
    • We'll be empowered and embrace by community. This event is more than just a gathering—it's a chance to connect, learn and grow with others in the community. Participants will be encouraged to be Upspoken (to share their experiences, ask questions and seek support in a welcoming and affirming environment).

Founded in 1994, the California Black Women's Health Project (CABWHP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and an affiliate of the National Black Women's Health Imperative based in Washington DC. We focus on empowering Black women to take personal responsibility for our own health and to advocate for changes in policies that adversely affect Black women's health status. Our statewide efforts embrace numerous issues, including health promotion and advocacy, which began in partnership with the UCLA Self-Help Center to provide self-help health education resources and policy advocacy for Black women across the state.
