Description:
Ed Wesly's "Art Forms From Dimensions Tomorrow" takes its title from a vintage Sun Ra album (Saturn 404, 1964).
Like the Celestial Musician composing with new sounds never heard before, Wesly prefers to make images never seen before instead of recording kitschy objects. Fornicate Reality is his battle cry, abusing the holographic technique to create rainbow explosions of light floating in space, he composes them into pieces based on his own doodles or combined with photographs.
He builds a world of abstract dreams
What human eyes have never seen
Where human feet have never trod
What human ears have never heard…
As part of the exhibition, Ed will be teaching a workshop of his special holographic techniques: email holostudiosnyc@gmail.com to reserve your spot.
Artist Bio:
Ed Wesly's life was changed when he witnessed one of the pioneers of holography record a couple of holograms at a photography teachers convention and got the bug to set up his own lab. He fulfilled his photo-historian's dream of meeting not the 19th century inventors of photography but those of 20th century holography and worked and partied with them. His holographic experience includes working at FermiLab, Magnaflux, Northwestern University, et al., plus he has taught hundreds of students at the Lake Forest College Holography Workshops, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College and the School of Holography at Museum of Holography/Chicago. He is the sole proprietor of the only functioning research grade holography lab in the City of Chicago and still continues to practice the fine art of wavefront reconstruction for fun and profit.
