Event description

Description

What is the relationship between art and architecture? How do architects shape the cultural landscape? How do spaces inform the kind of artworks being made? Is architecture responding to new kinds of contemporary art?

The second edition of Frieze Art & Architecture has a particular focus on international institutions – from contemporary extensions to London’s historic V&A and Royal Academy, to Cape Town’s newly opened Zeitz MoCAA and the long-awaited National Museum of African American History and Culture, which opened in Washington, D.C. last year.

We bring together architects in conversation with museum directors to discuss the role of architecture in creating, re-imagining and re-invigorating iconic institutions, and the challenges and opportunities presented by such projects. The programme also considers how commercial galleries are moving beyond the white cube model, as well as how artists’ homes influence their practices.

It is a must-visit event for architects and designers interested in working in the cultural field, museum directors and art collectors looking to commission architecture, or anyone curious about how artists and curators envision architecture for art.

The day will be hosted by Alice Rawsthorn with
