Architecting Your Movie: A Screenwriting Workshop with Matthew Syrett
Learn how to outline your screenplay like a pro, before you write a single word! Behind every great movie is a strong foundation. In this live zoom workshop, filmmaker and Oscar-winning producer Matthew Syrett (Freeheld, Netflix’s MerPeople) will teach you how to “architect” your movie using a beatsheet- a step-by-step outline that maps out your story’s key moments before you begin writing.
This industry-standard method helps screenwriters:
-Strengthen their story structure
-Identify and fix story problems early
-Speed up the writing process
-Share ideas clearly with collaborators
Matt will break down the beatsheet format, explore how it's used by professionals in both independent film and Hollywood blockbusters, and even reverse-engineer a well-known movie to see this tool in action.
By the end of this workshop, you'll be able to apply this approach to your own idea and screenplay.
-What You’ll Learn
-How to use a beatsheet to map your story structure
-Common outlining pitfalls and how to avoid them
