Anti-Ableism and Disability Justice: Reframing Inclusive Education
Overview
This session introduces ableism and Disability Justice as key frameworks for reimagining inclusive education. Ableism will be described in clear terms: the everyday barriers, stereotypes, and assumptions that cast disabled students as "problems to fix," rather than recognizing disability as a valued identity that strengthens classroom communities.
Using examples from schools, the session will illustrate how these ideas shape teaching and learning and how Disability Justice, a framework created by diverse disabled activists, can apply to education in a non-deficit way of understanding inclusion.
Participants will be invited to consider how applying this lens could transform approaches to inclusive education.
