About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Since January, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming you all to A Listening Space to discover the prolific personal record collection of Dinh Nguyen, otherwise known as DJ Natty Hô. Dinh Nguyen’s sonic corpus biographically traces the journey of his life - from Vietnam, Reunion Island, Arles, France, and posthumously, Chicago, Illinois.

This Summer, we have the honor of welcoming Millie Nguyen, Dinh’s daughter, to Chicago to steward the active and public archiving of his collection of over 14,000 records, cassettes, CD’s, 45s and more. Here through mid-July and in the space daily, Millie has been deeply engaged with her father’s collection. Her summer stewardship of A Listening Space and this living archive is incredibly valuable, bringing Dinh’s sonic legacy to life in a special and material way.

On Monday evening, Millie will be joined by her mother, Danielle Austin, in conversation with Theaster Gates as we reflect on Dinh’s legacy and learn about DJ Natty Hô and his collection. The discussion accompanied by a listening session with records pulled by Millie of some of the most beloved and personally memorable records from her father’s collection.

Wine will be available for purchase and complimentary tea, as always, will be available.
